'KILN TO TABLE' (Ceramics) and 'STILL LIFE AND FLORAL' (Paintings) The Gallery at Bevere phone: 01905 754 484 Craft In The Bay Gallery phone: 02920 484611 Monday 31 March – Friday 4 April 2008 Tutor: Morgen Hall Renowned artist Morgen Hall will be sharing her knowledge and expertise during this five day course in pottery. Students will be able to develop skills in throwing, slab building, turning and surface decoration including CAD/CAM stencil design. Using your own designs, Morgen will prepare vinyl stencils for you to use on your tea set to create positive and negative patterns and sgraffito design using coloured slips. Work will be left at Craft in the Bay for drying and firing. The cost of the course includes refreshments and buffet lunch provided by Kemi's cafe at Craft in the Bay. Early booking is recommended. Suitable for those with some prior experience in working with clay. Fri 7, Sat 8 & Sun 9 March 2008 Tutor: Morgen Hall A fantastic opportunity to develop specialist pottery skills in slip decoration and slab building. Morgen wil begin this course with a powerpoint presentation of her work. An established artist, Morgen creates wonderful tableware in porcelain and tin glazed red earthenware. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally and has pieces in many collections including the National Museum of Wales and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. On day one students will be given two pieces of porcelain tableware 'blanks' to apply waterslide transfers to the surface. You will also be able to apply liquid water based enamel colours using different techniques, including latex resist. Whilst this work is being fired you will create your own clay slabs and on day 2, explore various ways of applying coloured slips, including marbling, feathering, trailing and printing. Morgen will have prepared vinyl stencils based on your own designs. You can then apply your stencils to the clay slabs to create positive & negative designs and embossed patterns on the clay surfaces. After removing the stencils from the clay slabs, the stencils can be washed and taken home for use on future works. Day 3 will look at slab building using the previous days work. Each student will create a three dimensional slab built form. Further surface details will then be applied to the slab forms using mono printing and creating embossed edges with roulette wheels. Work will be left at Craft in the Bay to dry and be fired. (please allow 2 weeks before collecting your work). At the end of day 3 the kiln will be unloaded and the porcelain transfer decorated work from day 1 will be returned to you to take home.
